Recorded on cassette at The Buzz Club, Aldershot on the 10th of June 1989.
What Katy Did Next got to know Paul Heaton after Mark Fell met him on a photography course in 1982, he guested on trombone once at a live performance in 1984. After he became successful he saw a tape of the band on sale in a local shop window and asked if What Katy Did Next would be the support group for his new venture on their upcoming tour. It was very cheekily and unbelievably agreed that the group would support The Beautiful South on two tours which shows the extent of his belief in helping as What Katy Did Next was not a commercial commodity.
The drummer who had been with the group had drifted off a couple of months before and wanted to get back on board for the tour but it was decided to press on as a trio.
After the first two concerts it was realised that the guitars needed contact pick ups and The Buzz Club was the first to experience this beefed up sound.
One side effect however is that the sound engineer was woefully unprepared for what he was about to receive and listeners will need to bear with the sound as he spends virtually all of the first song trying desperately to get things under control.
At the end of the concert The Beautiful South tore into the P.A. and smashed it up because they were upset that they had not sounded like What Katy Did Next.
